Show A New Use for Cheap Acreage An important experiment is being undertaken near Mliddleboro", Massachusetts, in the starting of an elk farm. Some 2,000 elk are being shipped from government reservations reserva-tions in the West to make the nucleus of a large-scale project for breeding elk for market. The proposition has possibilities possibil-ities more far-reaching than those generally realized. If this experiment proves a financial success, it may very likely be the beginning of a similar movement, not only in Massachusetts, Mas-sachusetts, but in nearly every other section of the country. In everv state there are thousands of acres of partially wooded and' scrub land which can be bought for only a few dollars an acre and which would be suitable for raising vari-nu vari-nu kinds of game. So far this land has been considered ni' no value except for the wood on it or for recreational purposes. The progress of the elk farm in Middleboro may oncn the way for a very rapid development in the use of such property, oiice the idea takes hold. The principal capital outlay, aside from the land, is a suitable fence. Some day a new industry will be developed which will make use of the miles and miles of open land which today has almost no value. Whether it is used for raising elk or something some-thing else, we believe that the demand for such property will increase during the coming years. |
