Show MANAVU WARD BISHOPRIC IS REORGANIZED F. G. Warnick and George E. Barton Resiim as First and Second Counselors After six years of faithful service in the bishopric of Manavu ward, Fred G. Warnick, first counselor to Bishop Nephi Anderson and George E. Barton, second counselor, were honorably released and Prof. J. M. Jensen and Wilbur Sowards, respectively, re-spectively, were unanimously sustained sus-tained to fill the vacancies. This action was taken nt a conference con-ference held in the Manavu ward chapel Sunday evening at which President T. X. Taylor and members mem-bers of the high council were in attendance. at-tendance. The retiring members of the bishopric were given a vote of thanks for the faithful service they had rendered the church nnd the-Manavu the-Manavu wnrd during their tenure of office. In the selection of Professor Jensen Jen-sen and Mr. Sowards to fill the vacancies va-cancies the ward will receive the services of two men of exceptional training in jthe aitfairs of the; church, according to Bishop Anderson. For ten years prior to leaving the Provo Second wrard Professor Jensen served as a counselor to Bishop L. L. Nelson. ' Before entering en-tering the service in the bishopric he had served as superintendent of the Second ward Sunday school for a number of years. Upon leaving the Second wnrd he was made a member of the Utah stake high council in which he served for a period of ten years. He then served for a number of years as stake superintendent su-perintendent of Religion classes. Aside from his service in the church Professor Jensen has always al-ways taken an active part In the civic and educational affairs of Provo. Outstanding among his achievements in the civic life of the city is the writing of a history of Provo, a work of which the entire city is proud nnd one that has elicited much praise from everyone w-ho has perused its pages. For many years he was principal of the Franklin school, but having a keen desire to advance educationally education-ally he persued his :tudies until he was recognized as an instructor of exceptional merit and was given a place on the fau lty of the Brlgham Young university, which position he has held with credit for many years. Mr. Sowards came to Provo from Vernnl two years ago. For four-this four-this city he served as counselor to teen years prior to his coming to Bishop Hyruin B. Cnlder in the Vernnl First ward. Before that time he filled three missions, the first being in the southern states from 1900 to 1902. In 1908 he left to fill a two year's mission in California Califor-nia nnd in 1914 he filled a short mission in the southern, states. In-boring In-boring in the state of Kentucky. During the two years that lie has lived in Provo, Mr. Sowards has taken an active part in ihe affairs of the church, serving on a number of conunitees In the Manavu ward. He is engaged in the mercantile business being the proprie'o. of a grocery store bearing his name. |
