' DEAN RETURNS FROM TRIP TO WASHINGTON Prof. John C. Swenson of Youn- University Visits Several State Capitols Dean John C. Swonson of the summer sessum of liiiham Ynuiijc university returned Thursday from an extended trip in the east where he went to attend the meeting of superintendents in "Washinnm, . C, late in February, lie reported that the meeting, attended by more than 10,000, was a.i enthusiastic one. "To my surprise religious education educa-tion was practically the theme of the meeting," Dean Swenson said. "Bishop Freeman at a vesper service ser-vice at the beginning of the session used religious education as his theme and the matter was taken up in subsequent meetings despite the fact that the official topic of the convention was belter administration administra-tion units." "While in "Washington, Dean Kwen-son Kwen-son attended a Utah state dinner at tho "Willard Hotel at. which Chief Justice George Sutherland, Senator Heed Smoot, Kx-Governor William Spry and Representative Don B. Col ton were aiming the speakers. Chief Justice Sutherland began the program by reveiwing his early school days in the little school in Springvillo and later at the Brigham Young academy where he met and came under the influence of Dr. Karl G. Maescr whom he praised as one of hte outstanding educators of our time. The other speakers followed fol-lowed tho lead set by the chief justice jus-tice and all paid tribute to Dr. Mae-ser. Mae-ser. The last speaker was the United Slates commissioner of education who also spoke favorably of Utah and of the spirit of the meeting.
