Show Many Exhibits At Utah County Fair And Fall Festival Interest in the county fair and fall festival to be held in Provo, September 24, 25 and 26, is growing throughout the county. The various cities and communities of the county are making preparations for their exhibits and business organizations and institutions are also intending to make creditable exhibits at the fair. Among the unique exhibits that will" be shown will be that of the State Mental hospital. ' During the past few months the male patients of the hospital have been doing some exceptional woodwork and reed-weaving, " while the women have made some splendid embroidery work. According Accord-ing to Dr. Frederick Dunn, superintendent of the hospital, the work of the patients will be placed on exhibit at the Utah county fair before being sent to the state fair in Salt Lake City. Word has also been received by the fair management that the Tintic Standard Mining company, with mines at Dividend and a mill between Goshen and Santaquin, will have a mineral exhibit at the fair. Besides the fruit and vegetable portion of the fair, which is certain to attract a great deal of attention, the battle exhibit ex-hibit will also be a leading part of the fair. Leo J. Knight, secretary of the Utah State Jersey Breeders association, is urging the Jersey breeders of this section to get in readiness for the fall festival and to place their cattle on exhibit. Cash prizes will be given to the winners in the various entries, for first and second places. Among the breeds of cattle to be exhibited will be Herefords, Shorthorns, Jerseys, Holsteins and Guernseys. Rulon Dixon of Provo, head of the agricultural department depart-ment of the Pleasant Grove high school, will be one of the judges in the livestock and poultry exhibit. More than $500 in cash prizes will be given out to the exhibitors of livestock, poultry, fruits, vegetables and other products. PROGRAM OUTLINED. The program of the three-day fall festival follows : Wednesday, Sept. 24. 10 a. m., formal opening. 2 p. m., general assembly at tabernacle; music under the direction of Prof. J. R. Boshard; address of welcome, Commissioner Com-missioner James T. Gardner of the general arrangements committee; response, Mayor O. K. Hansen; music; address, Mayor C. Clarence Neslen of Salt Lake; music. 4. p m., review of exhibition on second floor of the new city and county building. 6 p. m., balloon ascension and parachute descent from exhibition grounds. 7 p. m., band concern and community handshake under the direction of E. L. Roberts. 8:30 p. m., entertainments in the theaters. Thursday, Sept. 25. Day's activities under the supervision super-vision of the Utah County Farm bureau. 10 a. m,, general exercises in the Utah stake tabernacle; opening music; address, Charles H. White, mayor of Payson; address, "Agricultural Interests and Their Relation to the Commercial Intersts," Ephraim Bergesen, president of the Utah State Farm bureau; address, Charles R. Mabey; music. 2 to 2 :30 p. m., visiting of the various exhibitions, 2:30 to 4:30 p. m., football game between the teams of Utah County High School league, Timpanogos park. 5 p. m., balloon ascension and funmaking stunts, at Timpanogos park, 7 to 8 p. m,, band concert and community handshake, Pioneer park. 8 p. m., special entertainment in the Provo theaters. Friday, Sept. -26 10 a. m., grand parade, in which all prize-winning livestock will be shown. Floats representing the various phases of activity in Utah county will be featured. 1 p. m., visit to exhibition. 2:30 p. m., football game between teams of the Utah County High School league. 5 p. m., balloon ascension. 8:30 p. m., reunion of cities of the county and grand festival ball in ladies' gymnasium. |
