Show Companionate Marriage Is - Success, Says Bride's Father I i GIRARD Kas., Oct 23. (UP) Almost a year of successful companionate com-panionate married life ol his daughter daugh-ter with Aubrey Roselie has con-vin-ri E. Heldman Julius. While her young companionate husband works in his father's creamery to earn a living, Josephine Haldeman-Julius is attending high school, where she is doing her last year's work, interrupted by her marriage last February. In a statement to the United Press today, Haldeman-Julius declared de-clared concerning the relations be I ween the two: "Their love for each other has not diminished in the slightest, if it had, and there had been any sort of a break, the press, and particularly the clergy, would have had a delicious delic-ious morsel. The preachers who so blatantly criticized this young couple may feel disappointed, but i Ho not know how to satisfy them in the manner they might prefer. As great defenders of the family and marriage, they undoubtedly would have, preferred to see this couple separated, or perhaps divorced. It is too bad that the times does not always work things out to the complete com-plete satisfaction of all of us. In this caje. we are all happy, to say the least." The companionate arrangement is not meant to destroy the family and the home and to set up an orgy of lust, the father said. "But we are not so foolish as to close our eyes to certain obvious faults and evils. On the contrary, we advocate' facing them, studying them, and scientifically attacking the. acute problem they present. To that end, companionate marriage offers at least the beginning of a definite constructive program, and as such it deserves not the out-of hand condemnation it has so generally gen-erally received, but approval, and endorsement, and intelligent sup. port." The five essentials of companionate companion-ate marriage, as explained by Haldeman-Julius are: That there shall be sane, clean, sex education for the children and scientific instruction in-struction in laws and art of love, marriage and parenthood at the tim of adolescehse; legal dissemination of birth control information; divorce di-vorce by mutual consent for childless child-less couples; no alimony as a matter of arbitrary legal right; establishment establish-ment of a . new institution to be called "The house of human welfare." |
