Show IMPORTANT CHANGES IN T FACULTY Gerritt De Jong, Jr., of Salt Lake Named Dean of New College of Arts A new college was established at the Young university Tuesday at the meeting of the board of trustees. The new school, the college col-lege of arts, is the fifth college at the big church school, and will include in-clude the departments of fine arts, dramatic art, music and public speaking. The other colleges of the school are the college of sciences, the college col-lege of applied science, the college of commerce and business administration adminis-tration and the college of education. Prof. Gerritt Dc.Tong, Jr., head of the modern language department of the Lntter-day Saint university at Salt Lake was appointed dean of the new college of arts. He will also be associate professor of modern mod-ern languages. Other, appointments made by the trustees "were Dr. Vasco M. Tanner, formerly of Dixie College, as professor pro-fessor of zoology and entomology ; j Dr. A. F. Barney, formerly of the I Utah Agricultural college, as in-1 structor in botany ; Myrtie Jenson, instructor in English nt the American Amer-ican Fork high school, as instructor instruc-tor in English : Mrs. E. IT. Smart, as dean of women : .Tohu A. Watts, as instructor in geology; Charles J. Hart, as instructor in physical education edu-cation and assistant coach and Carl J. Christensen, as instructor in physics and mathematics. The following teachers were reported re-ported as returning to the institution institu-tion after leaves of absence: E. L. Roberts, who has been director of the new Weber gymnasium ' during this year; J. M. Jensen, who has been studying at Stanford university univer-sity for a year: T. Earl Pardee, who has been a student of Columbia university uni-versity for a year: Alice L. Reynolds Rey-nolds and Vilate Elliott, both of whom have been touring Europe and Asia Minor during the past year. Franklin Madscn, Harold W. Bentley, Anna Egbert and Fred ; Buss were granted leaves of absence ab-sence for one year. Dr. Hugh M. Woodward, dean of the summer school, was granted leave of absence for the summer. Dr. Woodward will join the teaching teach-ing force of the Unirersity of Washington Wash-ington at Seattle for both terms of the summer school where he will teach courses in the'phisolophy of education. John C. Swenson, pro-, pro-, fessor of economics and sociology, ! will act as dean of the summer school in Deaiv Woodward's absence. : Resignations tendered by the fol-i fol-i lowing faculty members were accepted ac-cepted by the board and will take effect at the close of this school year: Blanche M.
