Show Gam G. Campbell aboard ship Garn G. Campbell, chief ra-darman, ra-darman, USN, son of Mrs. Margaret Campbell of 325 W. First St., N., is serving aboard the destroyer USS Rowan, part of the combined First Fleet force involved in Exercise Night Stick off the coast of California. The exercise in anti-submarine and anti-air warfare techniques tech-niques began Dec. 10, and lasted five days. Eighteen ships - and several aircraft units were involved in Exercise Night Stick which was coordinated by Vice Admiral Ad-miral R.T.S. Keith, Commander Command-er First Fleet. The ships included in-cluded aircraft carriers, a heavy cruiser, a nuclear submarine, sub-marine, 11 destroyers, a minesweeper mine-sweeper and three auxiliary ships. The exercise was aimed at maintaining overall readiness of the units involved and to develop their preparedness for duty in the Western Pacific with the Seventh Fleet. The operation centered around a fast carrier striking force supported by an anti-submarine warfare group. They were op- pesed by aircraft and submarines. submar-ines. The aircraft used included includ-ed jets and propeller-driven ranging in size up to medium bombers. |
