Show I Business trends I shown in report Statistics released today by D. E. Smith, district manager of the Salt Lake City office of Dun & Bradstreet, Inc. reflect the trend of the business population in Utah County during dur-ing the past year. Figures obtained ob-tained from a physical count of the Dun & Bradstreet reference ref-erence Book for January, 1963, totaled 1226 manufacturers, wholesalers, and retailers in this area. The report does not include some of the service and professional pro-fessional businesses such as beauty and barber shops, security sec-urity dealers and real estate brokers. Therefore, the figures for business in Utah County would actually be higher than the 1226 quote above. The Dun & Bradstreet Reference Ref-erence Book, which is the world's largest regularly published pub-lished volume, is revised every sixty days to keep the business listings current. During the past sixty days, nearly 70,000 new names were added t the Reference Book and almost 65,000 were removed During the period, credit ratings were changed on more than- 110,000 business enterprises. Using the Dun & Bradstreet his business and a factor in determining the credit rating of his business. Each Reference Book listing is a condensed summary of the information contained in the Dun Bradstreet credit report. The report includes a history of the business; a description of what the business does and how it does it; a financial section sec-tion which usually includes the latest financial statement; and a record or how the business pays its bills. Credit reports are primarily used by businessmen who want to evaluate the credit risk of a business before shipping or selling. Inc., through its national network net-work of offices, writes every year to all business in the Reference Book to request their financial statements. This year these requests are being sent to approximately three million businesses to the corner grocery groc-ery store worth a few thousand dollars as well as to businesses worth million. When the owner of a business bus-iness enterprizes, or his accountant, ac-countant, fills out and mails his financial statement to Dun & Bradstreet, it becomes a part of the credit report on |
