Show Exotic game bird being introduced Experiments in the hatchery production of several exotic game bird species are continuing continu-ing at the Utah Department of Fish and Game bird farm in Price. The birds, mostly Asiatic in origin, include the see see partridge, part-ridge, grey francolin and black francolin red-legged partridge, white winged pheasant and sand grouse. Goal of the experiment is to obtain eggs from each of the several species from which to raise brood birds. Success in this first stage of the project would mean eventual production produc-tion of enough birds for planting plant-ing in the wild. The department said it is believed they would occupy habitat areas not currently suitable for or used by native or introduced upland game birds! This project is the result of a cooperative agreement with the Nevada Fish and Game Department. Under the agreement agree-ment a biologist from the Nevada Nev-ada department live-traps the original birds in India and other Asiatic countries for this experiment. They are then shipped to the Price farm where any successful reproduction repro-duction of birds from the hatchery hat-chery process will be shared by the two sister states for the planting in the wild. |
