Robert Crowley Robert Crowley, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Crowley, an-other outstanding scholar who devotes himself to the service of his fellow students, is pre sented as the Student of the Week. Robert is the editor of the high school newspaper, the stage manager of the school, member of the Science and Athletic Clubs and is keenly interested in chemistry, elec-tronics, and nuclear physics. He fills his out-o-f --school time with work in . the Na-tional Guard and he also holds the rank of Life Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. An out-do- enthusiast, Robert spe-cializes in hunting and fish-ing and is a member of the National Guard Rifle Team. Upon his completion of his high school work, Robert in-tends to cintinue his education Robert Crowley at the University of Utah in Chemical Engineering or Nu-clear Physics. For his sincere, quiet, unob-trusive manner in getting dif-ficult tasks done and for the fine caliber of work that he does in his high school activi-ties, we salute Robert Crowley as Student of the Week. J. Maynard and son Lyle and daughter Sally; also Mr. and Mrs. Ted Rothwell and Mr. and Mrs. Lyle Arvie came from Leslie, Ida. to visit dur-ing the holidays at the Roth-well home. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Thorn left Wednesday for a month's stay in Florida. They plan to attend the. national convention of the Associated General Con-tractors at Miami and to visit many other places of interest in the southland. They will be . accompanied as far as Las gas, Nev., by Mrs. Nettie ,Thorn who will go on to Cali-fornia to visit Mr. and Mrs. Robert Arbon (June Thorn) and family at Oxnard and other relatives and friends. i Mr. and Mrs. W. Ififlapieton 1few6 Leslie Astle who has been staying with the Sem Astle family while going to school spent the holidays with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Myrle Astle of McGill, Nevada. Mr. and Mrs. Carrol Draper and family of Logan were Sat-urday visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Reid M. Hales. The Elders Quorum of the Mapleton ward entertained their wives at a box supper Tuesday evening of last week in the church recreation hall. Cal Johnson was in charge of the evening's entertainment. Games were supervised by Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Bird. Musical numbers were given by Sen-eff- a Scott who sang several Samoan songs with his own ac-companiment. Mr. and Mrs. S. Lavel Bird accompanied by iMrs. Martha Whiting are spending a week in California where they will visit at the home of their daughter Melva Dean arid her husband Frank Oberhansley. Mrs. Whiting will visit at the home of Mrs. Clara Smith and her daughter at Santa Bar-bara. John I. Holley has been re-leased as teacher of the adult class in the Mapleton ward Sunday School, and William Jackson has been chosen to take his place. The class has been reorganized for the new year with Mrs. Florence Allan acting as president and Burt Warren, They will select their new secretary. Outgoing officers are S. Lavell Bird, president; Amanda Binks, . nt and Gladys Par-ry, secretary. Mr. and Mrs. Verl Jensen spent Christmas Day in Salt Lake City at the home of their daughter and son-in-la- Mr. and Mrs. Dick Booth. Lucille Wing has been chosen as the new secretary of the Mapleton ward Sunday School with Julie Cloward as her as-sistant. Helen Parry, a recent bride was released. Pat Wil-liams Jensen will be the new speech director in the MIA. Steak dinner and dancing was enjoyed by thirty four members of the Maple Leaf Riding club and their partners during the holidays at the Headman residence. Jack Bona and his color group were in charge. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Jensen were hosts to a group of friends at a party at their home New Year's Eve follow-ing the Forty Nine Dance in Meririorial Hall sponsored by the Jaycees. Several couple enjoyed a New Year's Eve supper at Parks Cafe in Orem followed by a social evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Marcel-lu- s Nielson in Spanish Fork. Guests included the following men and their wives: Glen Hol-ley, Glenn MacKenzie, Lavell Bird, Howard Whiting, Waldon Hurst, Spencer Mackley, Ar-thur Harmer and Norris Binks. The Mapleton Second ward Explorers accompanied by their leaders Sid Headman, George Stone,' Kelly Johnson, Elmo Court and Keith Wiscombe en-joyed a rabbit hunt near Eur-eka Saturday. Participating in the fun were Kelley Johnson Jr., David Clements, Monte Court, Clyde Bennett, Eddie Wiscombe, Terry Hjorth and Tommy Hooper, i Mr. and Mrs. Bill Parry and family of Layton spent the Christmas week end visiting with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Parry. A guest at the Parry home during the past weekend was a niece, Deanna Durrant of Ce-dar City. Mapleton Lions and their Ladies were well represented at the Lions Convention held in the U of U Union Building in Salt Lake City Friday. At-tending from here were the following Lions and wives: Sylvester Allan, Jack Canto, Wm. Whiting, Hugh Hjorth, Carlos Hjorth and Reid M. Hales. International president Dudley Simms was the honored guest at this convention. Mrs. Jack Canto and Mrs. Reid Hales drew lucky numbers and were presented with floral prizes. Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Larson and boys spent three days in St. George last week visiting with bis parents, Mr. and Mrs. Martie Larson and with other friends and relatives. They re-port sunshine but real chilly weather down there. Robert E. Mapleton Man's Bride Dies in Accident (Continued from Page One) 1928. Mr. Charvoz is Salt Lake deputy city auditor. She attended the University of Utah and obtained a bache-lor of fine arts, degree from Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, N.Y. She had been an artist for ZCMI. Among the Mapleton rela-tives attending the funeral ser-vices were Elmer Johnson", fa-ther of Welburn Mrs. Johnson was unable to attend on ac-count of illness; Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Bills and their fam-ily; Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Tuttle and their family. Mrs. Johnson was buried in the Springville Cemetery. |
