Show State Joins Trend To Withhold Tax Utah was one of six states ' to adopt withholding of income taxes from residents in 1959, according to a report just released re-leased by Utah Foundation, the private tax research organization. organiza-tion. The Foundation also observes ob-serves that since several state legislatures are still in session, there is the possibility that additional ad-ditional states may impose a withholding tax before the end of the year. The Foundation study shows that there are 18 states plus the District of Columbia which now have general withholding laws for collecting personal income in-come taxes. Included in this group are the new states of Alaska and Hawaii. In addition, addi-tion, state income taxes are withheld from nonresidents or in special circumstances in five of the other states. Ten states have personal income tax laws but no withholding systems. |
