Show j Sage Creek Baseball Team Competes I In WBBA Tournament at Tooele Sage Creek's WBBA baseball tea mwon the right to enter the little world baseball tournament tourna-ment at Tooele along with 7 other champion- ship teams, when they defeated Helper 2-0 last Wednesday at Riverton in a playoff game. Roger Reid again was the outstanding out-standing player for Sage Creek as he hurled 13 strikeouts and allowed only one walk. He also connected for a double to spell the difference in the contest. The game was somewhat of a pitchers' battle with both teams getting only two hits. Sage Creek's two runs were scored in the fourth inning. Participants in the Tooele tournament were in for a royal welcome when team members checked in Tuesday with a big banquet that night. Tonight : they were to be treated to a I chuck wagon dinner and then be guests of the riding club's real wild west entertainment with Indians and all. On Friday the small fry will be invited to the Tooele Ordinance depot where they will ride in tanks, shoot a machine gun and see a demolition exhibition. Besides all this, there will be conducted tours, swimming, bowling and a full program of activities besides be-sides their regular scheduled baseball tournament. Springville's champs were scheduled to open their tourney play Wed. at 1 p.m. against Santa Monica, defending cham-l pions of last year. It was this team that hosted the Springville Spring-ville boys last year in the Calif, tourney. Today, the Sage Creekers will play either Sugar House of Salt Lake or Blackfoot, Idaho. If they play as first day losers, the game will begin at 11 a.m. If they won the opening game, they play at 3 p.m. No games are scheduled for Friday and finals of the tournament start at 11:30 Sat. with the championship cham-pionship battle at 5:30. The tournament is a single elimination elimina-tion event. Accompanying the team to Tooele, where they will be housed in private homes, are Mr. and Mrs. Luke Orr, Mr. and Mrs. Carl Conrad and Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Heninger. Mr. Orr and Mr. Conrad are mgr. and asst. manager, respectively while Mr. Heninger is league president. |
