Show Vital Statitics of Italy. Prof. Sormani has recently discussed discuss-ed Italian vital statistics of the last forty years. His principal conclusions are that the birth rate fluctuated between be-tween 39.34 per I 000 (1876) and 33.49 (1S9S), while the corresponding death rates were 34.39 (1869) and 21.87 (1899). The biith has exceeded the death rate every year. In 1867 the excess was 2.40 and in 1897 it was 12.80. During the years 1862-99 the population Increased by 10,000,000. Comparing the periods 1862-75 and 1897-99 he con hides that, owing Unimproved Un-improved sanitary conditions, there is an annual savii g of eight lives in every thousand. At least 200,000 people have been effectively saved from death, and more than 4,000,000 from illness during the period er amined. |
