Show PAGE RETURNS TO RESIGN HIS POST NEW YORK, July 14. Thomas Nelson Page, irnlted States' ambassador to Italy, arriving here tonight from Liverpool on the steamer Carman ia, announced that he had returned for the purpose of resigning- his post. Mr. Pa?e cleared up reports concerning his resignation by slating ho bad not yet resigned, but had written to Washington several .months ago asking permission to come home and tender his resignation in person. While describing conditions in Italy as serious at the present time. Mr. Page ex-pressed ex-pressed belief that the Italian affairs soon would be adjusted satisfactorily. There Is Utile danger of a Bolshevik outbreak out-break in Italy, he said, unless the people peo-ple are driven to "absolute despair" by a food shortage more serious than is now . anticipated. |
