Show Pink Pachyderms Giving Place to Pleasanter Visions (Chicago Tribuno Special Service.) NEW YORK, July 14. In the old days, and 'especially in the old nights, merry gentlemen at 13 Park Row have seen strange things, among the commonest of which were pink elephants, purple mice and rum-horn rum-horn snakes of all sizes and colors. But on the wildest midnight no such scene was presented as that witnessed at high noon today. No. 13 Park Row is Haaa's. Over the bar and over old leather lounges still hang the gold-framed pictures of Diana and Venua and Lady Godiva and forty generations of September Morn. No change in j that. But back of the bar, flitting in and out among the bartenders drawing draw-ing 2.75 beer, was a pretty girl in a blue silk dress with transparent sleeves, carrying trays of French pastry, drawing coffee and chocolate, choco-late, and serving them to the guests. And up against the paying side of the bar were grouped six summery girls, one foot of each resting lightly on the brass rail. They munched scrambled eggs with mushrooms, mush-rooms, drank coffee, exchanged office of-fice gossip, and one of them drank 2.75. |
