Z years uf age, had a narrow escape from rough handling last night at the hands of t wo men whose wives he is alleged to have insulted. It was learned today that Dean is wanted upon a charge of dt-serting from the army. According to advices furnished to the sheriff's ot fice by the com phi ining wit -1 nesses. Dean's allei'd attempted nttark, accompanied by insulting language, was made upon Mrs. James .Miles hi id Mrs. M. II. Brandon, near the H ran don home on Ada nib a venuu and Twenty -second street, a.- the two women were going home from a show. When they were accosted by Dean, the women screamed, and their screams wore heard by Mr. Brandon, Mr. Miles and Charles Nye. who were at tho Brandon huine playing curds, Tho men rushed from tin: house and, a fter pausmg long enough to leurn of the attempted assail as-sail It. w .-nt in nursuit of Dean. Dean run along Adams avenue, a half a bjuck uhead of Brandon, Miles and Nye. The ,ra e was then west on Twenty-third street to an alley near Hudson avenue, Dean v us tracked in the deep fallow for some distance iu the alley and li's trail w as lost. The pursuers came out upon Hudson avenue- and saw a man standing near, who, when he saw tho trio, started to run. The chase was then re 1 ia wed. Brandon and Mi leu were passed hy Mr. Nye, holder of a record for running in tiie high school. Dean reached Twenty-fourth street and turned west. He was overhauled at the corner of Twenty -fourth street and Hudson avenue by Nye, who saw a deputy near by and turned Dean over to him. A complaint charging attempt ed assault will be sworn to in the city court tomorrow. The . army authorities also will be advised of Dean's arrest. |
