Show HEAVY SNOWFALL COMPLICATES FUEL PROBLEM AT OGDEN Special to The Tribune. OGDEN, Dec. 8. The first day of operation op-eration of the Ogden coal committee was ushered in with tho heaviest fall of snow and the coldest' weather of the year. With the snow of Saturday night and Sunday night it is estimated the fall was about nine inches. In Osden canyon there was about three feet of snow, while in Ogden valley the fall during the past forty-eight hours up to 6 o'clock tonight was estimated at two feet. In the city the order was issued is-sued far clearing the snow from the sidewalks. side-walks. The accompanying snowstorm has tied 1 up traffic on the Union Pacific between 1 Kvanston and Green River, Wyo., accord- ing to advices at tho depot. Train i No. 19 arrived from the east several hours i late. Heavv snowfall was encountered j north of Ogden on the Oregon Short .Line, 1 and Utah-Idaho Central railroad trains 1 were late today. On the Union Pacific, it is stated that a number of freight trains, carrying coal, are snowbound. Some of the trains are said to have coal for some of tiie local dealers, who are said to average about two (bos' supply ahead of the demand. The extremely cold weather today accompanying ac-companying tiie heavy snowfall was viewed with grave apprehension by the coal committee, which held its first meeting meet-ing with the coal dealers at the city hall this morning. Tiie situation was discussed dis-cussed at some length and a report upon the amount of coal on hand was made by the dealers. Although a possible ending of the coal strike is in sight, the committee com-mittee is of the pinion that Ogden must follow tho regulations very closely until the supply can equal the demand. YV. H. Reedcr, Jr., is chairman of the committee. com-mittee. No stringent regulations regarding the closing of industries, schools, stores, theaters or other establishments will be adopted at this time. The dealers are requeste 1 not to deliver coal to any person per-son or !irm that has more than thirty days' supply of coal on hand. Those who have more than thirty days' supply on hand and attempt to obtain more coal will be blacklisted and classed as hoarders, hoard-ers, according to committee members. The case will then be referred to federal agents. The retail coal dealers promised complete co-operation. Tomorrow they , will report on the amount of coal that will he necessary for Ogden supply up to j January 1. |
