Show WHEAT IN ILLINOIS IS ATTACKED BY FUNGUS CHICAGO, May 3. The yellowing of wheat in parts of Illinois, together with a loss of vigor to the plant, is reported due to an affliction hitherto unknown in this country. In a statement today, B. W. Snow, a I crop expert, says the condition as investigated investi-gated is due to a fungus which attacks the roots of the plant. In Australia it is known as "take-all" and in France as "foot rot," Mr, Snow says. The reports of yellowing plants are the first crop damage reported on the present ' crop. The Modern Miller estimates the area, affected by the disease at 300,000 acres. |
