Show SMITH! II KETTLESS1B Donations for Christmas Fund Vary as to Location, Workers Find. Does the money cling tighter to the pocket of Salt Lake residents on some parts of Main street than it does on others? This cpuestion has arisen as tho result of the checking up of the donations dona-tions in tho kettles along Main street, into which money is thrown for the Salvation Sal-vation Army fund to provide Christmas cheer for the destitute of Salt Lake. Yesterday the young man in charge of the kettle on the northeast corner of First South and Main street reported that he had had a poor day. He had taken in a little over ?0 at 0 o'clock in the afternoon. after-noon. The man in charge of the kettle at the southwest corner of Third South and Main streets gave a different report. He said he had taken in on an average of 515 per day. Does the charity impulse im-pulse increase as the crowd goes south? The lassie before the American theater said she thought Salt Lake was particularly particu-larly generous this year. The young woman on the southwest corner of Second Sec-ond South and Main streets said she thought the Salt Lake people were too busy spending money on themselves to care much what became of the poor people peo-ple at the holiday season. On the extreme nortnern part of Main street the contributions are slimmer than any other place. None of the kettles report re-port a boiling over in donations, however, how-ever, and if the homeless and orphans are to partake of a good dinner and feel the peace and good will which should descend de-scend upon Salt Lake on December every one must donate. |
