Tha Polish mining opulatiou of j Uj'jter Silesia continues to flee over the Polish border, to avoid bidn involved in shooting affrays. The search for arms I is still being carried on "by the Upper Silesian authorities with much success. According to today's reports, some artillery fire has been directed against the Silesian railroads and bridges, which are under strong guard. The German authorities have prepared pre-pared and will present before the entente en-tente commission evidence concerning alleged systematic plans, whereby a Polish invasion was arranged and Germans Ger-mans were abducted. The border dwellers are described as living in a pitiable state. The clearing out of Spartacan and communist nests has been completed. According to late dispatches, recent engagements at advanced ad-vanced posts have occurred at several points along the front. PAPJS, Saturday, Aug. 23. The railway service of central .Europe depends de-pends largely on the results attained by the interallied coal commission, now on its way to Upper Silesia. Unless the coal production in that district increases, in-creases, the central European railways will practically cease operation within ten days, as the coal supply will not last much longer. Arrests 'and expulsions have been numerous, resulting in a general strike August 21, which has developed into a genuine insurrection on the part of the Poles, who, with few arms, have captured cap-tured several villages and instituted war against the Germans. The Germans have executed Poles, and Poles are fleeing flee-ing into Poland, carrying Germans with them as hostages. One hundred thousand Poles are massed along the Silesian border, anxious anx-ious to enter Silesia to ' protect their countrymen from oppression. It seems impossible to get the Polish miners to return to .work without foreign protection, protec-tion, and consequently there is danger of a serious clash and an economic crisis unless a so.lution is found. ! |
