Show PROVISION FOR 1 SURVEYURGED . Federal Bureau Director Advises State Cooperation Coopera-tion With U. S. That advantage be taken by ths states of the proposed appropriations for topo- j graphic surveys within 'the United States j Is urged In a letter received yesterday by George F. McGonagle, state engineer, from George Otis Smith, director of the bureau of the United States geological survey, who suggests that state appro- j priations also be made at this time. " have asked congress to appropriate $600,000 for topographical surveys for the fiscal year ending June 30. 1920." Mr. Smith said. "If this appropriation is made and all the states set aside funds, the total of which equals the federal appropriation, ap-propriation, the state of Utah will be entitled en-titled to 2. S3 per cent of the total appropriation, appro-priation, or approximately $17,000. "However, it is improbable that Mil the states will be in a position during the next two years to allot funds in cooperation co-operation with the geological survey, and I feet -sure that a federal allotment to the state of Utah could be made for each of the two years of your next biennial period. "I suggest that you consider an appropriation appro-priation In your next budget of at least $20,000 annually to be provided by the state legislature for co-operative topographic topo-graphic surveys." |
