The animals w-ill be replaced by am up-to-date electric haulage system similar to that employed on the West End between be-tween the main shaft on Edwards street and the Ohio workings. The Belmont has placed a contract for an electric locomotive and the installation of the system will begin as soon as labor troubles arc adjusted so that electricians wdll work in the mine. The Belmont uns the distinction of being the only mino in 'Nevada using animal power in tramming. The change was made about five years ago when the first mule was lowered down the shaft. A stable was. hewn in the rock, electric lights put in and the animals ani-mals provided with all the comforts com-forts of a home on the upper crust of the earth. The experiment proved so successful that the nuniDur of animals increased until twelve were in the lower re-;"ns when the strike order took effect. ef-fect. The mules were blindfolded in Tioisting them out and will be introduced intro-duced to daylight gradually so their eves will not be impaired by sunsnme. |
