Show Liodsey Fine to Be Paid by Boys' Pennies CHICAGO, Aug. 30. Members of the Boys' Brotherhood Republic aro conducting a drive to raise 50,-000 50,-000 pennies to pay the fine of Judge Ben Lindsey of Denver, who has decided de-cided that he would rather serve a sentence for refusing to violate a boy's confidence than pay a fine. This became known today -when a j telegrram sent to the judge was made public. It roads: ! "The Eoys' Brotherhood Republic, j representing tlte boys of Chicago, j will raise 50,000 pennies to pay your j unjust fine. If Colorado needs the monoy Chicago boys will furnish it. Campaign starts now; first collection collec-tion 136 pennies." The action was determined upon at a meeting of the "main city hall" of the republic and was suggested by Sidney Lewis, 16-year-old prosccut- I in? attorney, after reading that ! Judge Lindsey was soon to serve -25 : days in the Denver jail for contempt of court. The only alternative was I payment of a 5500 fine. |
