W' ITH practically all of the 1S17-1S players returning to school, in addition to a larse number of husky youngsters from the hir;h schools, prospects for a winning; football nam at the University of Utah are groivintr brighter every day. On account of that sinister pair the war and the flu. no attempt was made l..st year to play any gridiron contests. ! However, as most of the moleskin war-j war-j riors were either in military training or , actually did participate in bucking the ! Hinder.burg line, it is reasonable to be-I be-I lieve the season's layoff has helped in-I in-I stead of handicapped the University players. As a result of the decision of the L. I?. S. educational authorities to restore I football in the church schools, the B. i. U. will enter a team, thereby adding competition to the football campaign. Coach Luisene Roberts of the H. V. U. leu last week for Yale to suniv the latest methods of football coaching. Roberts was picked as all-state quarterback when he cavorted behind the line for the 1!. Y. U. eleven several years back, and he I has been keeping up with the game in the : hope that the B. Y. 0. would some day again play the gridiron game. There- j fore, with a short course at Yale, Roberts Rob-erts should have little trouble in forming a classy aggregation. "U" Is Prepared. Coach Tommy Pitzpatrick is looking forward to, and preparing for, the great- est turnout of football huskies in the his- tory of the U. of UV Although registra-l registra-l tion at the "U" does not begin until I September 26, Fitzpatnek intends to hold j the initial practice September 17. Some of the gridders who are in town , and read for school have been casting j longing eyes in the direction of the campus, cam-pus, and Tommy has decided that, as they did not have a chance to fall on the pigskin last season, a little extra work I ilns fall would help greatly. Fitzpatriek is expecting a large squad to come out for the first rehearsal. By tho time school starts Tommy is confident ho will have a squad numbering at least sixty-five sixty-five men out in . moleskins. D. A. Callahan will render assistance to Coach Fitzpatrick in whipping into shape a championship eleven on tho hilltop hill-top the coming season. Mr. Callahan has devoted his time to high school athletics. The conference schedule is extremely favorable to the local team this year, four games being scheduled at home and two abroad. The opening game will bo 1 layed October 11 on Cunnuings field against Colorado college. No information is available on the possible strength of the Colorado teams this year, but it can be safely said that they will present strong teams when they buck up against the Utah aggregation. That Utah's opponents will need all the strength possible can be understood after looking at the list of huskies who will re-enter school and try out for the team. Among the stars who have all had experience expe-rience on the gridiron and who will bo out battling for the "U" this season are: Mit Romney, Swan, Kay, Thorum, Roache, Howells, Stevenson, Reoves, Ballard. Bal-lard. Silver, Nowells, Johnson, Culp, Stewart, Woodbury, Wing, Harris, Wright, Chipman, Nielson, Francke, Gray, Davis, Ure, Ottlnger, Gilmer, Jen-son, Jen-son, Simmons, Kggertson and the three Andersons.
