Show AIRPLANE DELIVERY. What is said to be the first regularly regu-larly established airplane delivery system sys-tem adopted by a mercantile establishment establish-ment has been put in operation between be-tween Xewark, New Jersey, and As-bury As-bury Park. Delivery of orders by airship air-ship will be made on schedule by a company in Newark to its patrons. A member of tho firm pronounced the cnture an unqualif ied success, but doubted if the carrying capacity of tho hcavier-than-air machine would compare com-pare favorably with that of a gas dirigible. dir-igible. Tho company proposes to investigate in-vestigate tho utilitarian qualities of the latter in connection with its air service, and, if they promise to excel those of the plane, will adopt the contrivance con-trivance of greater lifting power. So well pleased were the experimenters experi-menters with the initial trip in the new delivery service that they set tit work immediately mapping carefulhr its trado territory, the maps being eom-piled eom-piled especially with a view of aiding the fliers. The plane which made the first journey jour-ney was in chargo of two army fliers. It .carried fifty parcels and a bag of mail. It mado the flight from Newark to Asbury in approximately twenty-five twenty-five minutes. This is no visionary scheme, this air delivery service. It possesses many obvious ob-vious advantages over automobile or wagou transport in reaching suburban or rural points. No doubt the extension exten-sion of this method of filling orders Will be extremely rapid. |
