The National Roman's party today called on the governors gov-ernors of twenty -eipht states, where women now have full or partial suffrage, to summon special sessions of the legislatures legisla-tures to take action toward ratification of the constitutional amendment permit-tin? permit-tin? nation-wide suffrage. "We ask this in behalf of our members in your state and in order that there may be conserved to the nation the outpouring of strength, effort, time and money which Is the daily toll of the prolonged effort for woman's enfranchisement. "Will you let me know if we can count on your active support?" The communication is signed by Maude Younger, chairman of the lobby committee commit-tee of the party. Reports to headquarters today indicate speedy ratification of the amendment by the legislatures of Illinois, Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania, which are now in session. Text's, despite the defeat of the suffrage amenlment at a recent election, is also counted on to ratify the amendment. As soon as the first state ratifies the amendment a gold star will be placed in the white stripe of the banner of the National Na-tional Woman's party. The next star will be purple, and thereafter the two colors v.-ill- alternate for the thirty-six states necessary for the ratification and for the entire forty-eight states, should the hope of the suffragists be fulfilled as far as nation-wide ratification is concerned. |
