T i ' : " i ' Championships in 100, 200 and 500 Yards Will Be Bitterly Contested. THE Intermountain Swimming championship meet to be helj at tho Deseret gymnasium Tuesday Tues-day and Wednesday evenings promises to be an extremely interesting in-teresting event. Keener competition competi-tion in the long list of features is promised than in any of the annual meets heretofore held. The entries include in-clude most of the present title holders and a large number of new men eager to get into the championship class. The title events the 100, 200 and 500 vard free style are attracting the "best swimmers in the Intermountain district, dis-trict, which includes Utah, Idaho and Montana, and it is more than likely that the present record in each of these three event3 will be considerably lowered. low-ered. George lelson, Alvin Kelson, Clarence Clar-ence Wareing, McKeith Burt, Rolf Bolin, and a large number of others will compete in the 100, 220 and 500 vard events. Victor Day, Melvin Free-bairn, Free-bairn, George Nelson, "Joseph Thomas and Charles Ellicott are some of the well known performers in the back stroke and breast stroke, and Bay T. Cutler, Delamar Fairbanks, George Wood, Paul Ross and Wallace Penrose are among the entrants in the diving, John D. Giles, Melvin Frcebairn, Harold Har-old Schroder and Richard Thurman are entered in the plunge for distance. The relay teams from the Deseret gymnasium and the U. of U. will com-peto com-peto for honors in the 400-yard relay race. Each man will swim 100 yards. The girls will compete in a 56-yard scratch race, and in diving events and a large number is expected to take part. Owing to the large number of entrants en-trants in two events, the 200-yard breast and 100-yard free style, preliminary heats, will be swum at the Deseret gymnasium gym-nasium tomorrow evening. For the boj's who have not had experience ex-perience in championship races the 60-yard 60-yard handicap, and the 40-yard obstacle ob-stacle race have been provided, and in addidtion a 60-yard scratch for boys under 16 has been arranged. The Deseret Des-eret gymnasirtm has donated flOO in prizes, gold, silver and bronze redals will be presented to the winners in each championship event, and three prizes will be given in each of the other events. Prizes for the last named events were given by the Salt Lake Hardware company, Spalding Bros., and the Heber J. Grant company. The officials chosen for the meet are: Starters, T. M. Fitzpatrick, H.
