Show GLEN LEE CAPTURES WATER MCE HONORS Wins Sixty-yard Handicap Event Against Nineteen Keen Competitors. Swimming against nineteen competitors, Glen L-ee won the Deserct gymnasium 60-yard handicap event in the gymnasium pool last night. Favored with a largo handicap, Lee showed plenty of speed and endurance and had little difficulty winning his elimination heat as well as the final. L. Daynes, A. Nelson, &'. Neslen, N, TVidtsoe and Lee were entered In the final heat as the, result of each winning the preliminary event in which they were entered. Lee drew the larg'est handicap and kept well In front of Widtsoe and Daynes, who had a close fight for the second position. Alvln Nelson, holder of the intermountain 100-yard championship, started at scratch, but was unable to overtake the other men. Owing to a mixup in the fourth preliminary heat, in which Taylor, swimming out of hit course, interfered with Young, Neslen, the winner, consented to race the heat over with Young. Neslen won. However, Neslen Nes-len became exhausted and was unable to take part in the finals. In the first elimination heat, Cannon, Thedell and Daynes engaged in a close race until the last 10 yards, when Daynes nosed ahead, while Cannon finished second, sec-ond, with Thedell third. The handicap of the first three proved too .large for Keate. i Alvln Nelson, by gradually cutting down , the lead, managed to go ahead in the last j 30 yards of the second heat. The fourth ! heat was closest of the evening, Willey, Service, Widtsoe and Thomas all finishing' close together. Widtsoe showed a spurt near the finish that won out for him. A number of men who participated last night have the fundamentals for excellent swimmers. Although most of them are inexperienced. Charlie Welch, swimming instructor, expects to have a speedy aggregation ag-gregation together to match colors with the University of . Utah team next month. Summary: Final heat Glen Lee, w-on; N.
