Show STEEL MEN DISCUSS ' FUTURE OF INDUSTRY WASHINGTON, March 19. Initial steps toward bringing about a reduction of prices and stabilization of the basic commodities com-modities were taken today at a conference confer-ence of representatives of the steel industry in-dustry with the . department of commerce's com-merce's recently organized industrial board. The steel men, headed by E. H. Gary, chairman of the American Iron and Steel institute, met with the board and later held a separate conference. Another An-other meeting with the board will be held tomorrow, The attitude of the steel manufacturers toward the board's proposals was not announced. an-nounced. The board, however, in a statement state-ment issued after the joint conference, said that while "an actual decision on a lowered scale of prices" had not been reached, ''satisfactory progress has been made." Chairman Peek of the board was quoted as saying the steel men had shown an entire willingness "to cooperate in making effective, any program that will hasten the return to normal conditions." |
