Show BOXING 1! FOR SOWSSUREO Baseball Diamonds Will Also Be Laid Out for the Men at Fort Douglas. . Expenditure of 1000 for the erection of an outdoor boxing arena and grandstand at Fort Douglas has been authorized and work will begin at once. Authority has also been received to place and equip a number of tennis courts and baseball fields for the use of the soldiers stationed at the fort. Permission has been received to have the allied welfare organizations participate In the work, and to help In tho furnishing of the necessary equipment. Locations for the boxing arena and the tennis courts have not yet been decided upon. A baseball field will be equipped In the northwest corner of the reservation, clow to the car line. Anothor field will bo temporarily placed, for practice pur. noses, on the parking area in front of tilt; hospital wards. The boxing arena, as now planned, will consist of an elevated ring; with a circular cir-cular grandstand surrounding it. It Is planned to seat more than five hundred people. Athletic activities received an impetus at a meeting of the hospital detachment men which whs addressed by Lieutenant W. J. Lovering. Sergeant Major John J. Maxwell was placed in charge of the activities ac-tivities and organized two baseball teams. Practice started yesterday afternoon. 1 . |
