Show STATE ENDS MONTH WITH SMALL BALANCE Tho monthly report of Daniel O. Lar-; Lar-; son, state treasurer, prepared yesterday, t showed that the state is closing the month with a smaller balance on hand than has been the case in .many years. This does not mean that the state is particularly par-ticularly poorer than it has been at other times, but that the state land board has succeeded in getting the funds entrusted to it out at interest, where returns will come to the schools and other institutions institu-tions that are beneficiaries of these trusts. . For example, the state district school land fund principal, which a little more than a year ago was in the neighborhood of $750,000, has been reduced to $25,020.01 The ether 5725,000 has been put out at interest, varying from 4 to 6 per cent, the income accruing therefrom going to the district schools of the state. The balance on hand October :;l in all state funds was J862.404.fl7, as compared with $1, 062,701. 07 September 30 last. Receipts Re-ceipts for the month were $404,139.23, and disbursements were $604,435 33 A total of $22S,633.9S was loaned from the fiistnet school land fund by the state land board during the month, more than $200,000 of this going to the purchase of 4 stataaoad bonds. |
