Show STALLINGS REFUSES $15,000 FOR GOWDY BOSTON, Dec. 5. Manager S tailings of tho Braves has rejected a flat offer of $15,000 for Hank Gowdy, -hero of the 1914 world's series, and by many rated peerless peer-less as a backstop and handy man with the bat. Hank is still over In France. Possibly the big league mogul who sought to purchase him had a weather eye on Hank's increased value as a drawing draw-ing card as tne result of his participation in the war, and it is expected he will raise the bid. However, while Stall ings is doing little talking, those who know him feel thai there isn't enough money afloat to get Rank away from the Braves while Stallings is running the team. Incidentally In-cidentally there is a bit of curiosity as to what quarter the bid comes from, but Manager Stallings is keeping his own counsel. |
