Amusement Tax Stays. - Ten per cent taxes imposed in the house bill on bathing suits and photographs or reproductions were ent irely eliminated and that of 10 per cent on fur and woo articles made applicable to fur manufacturers manufac-turers only. In the excise schedule no ehange was made in the 5 per cant sales tax on automobiles, tires and accessories, nor in the 10 per cent rate on sporting goods and liveries, tapestries, textiles and yachts and motor boats. The 10 per cent sates (ax on precious stones, jewelry and imitations, clocks, wa tches, opera g)r y ses and similar articles arti-cles was reduced to u per cent. After tentatively deciding today upon reduction of the amusement admission taxes, the committees finally determined to leave them unchanged as already reduced re-duced from the house figures. The principal prin-cipal rate for surh admission is 1 cent for each 5 cents paid. The 10 per cent tax on club dues also was left unchanged. New Rates on Cigars. The committee struck out the house provision for a tax of 2 cents a gallon on gasoline. No change was made in the alcoholic beverage rates, but tiie house tax of Ii0 per cent on near beer was cut to 15 per cent and that on other soft drinks from 20 to 10 per cent. Tiie new rates approved on cigars were: I $1.00 on those, weighing under three pounds per thousand; $4 per thousand on those retailing for 5 cents, $F.40 per thousand thou-sand on those retailing for from 5 to S cents; $y on those retailing for from 8 to In cents; $12 on those retailing for between be-tween 15 and 20 cents, and on those retailing for over 20 c.;nts. On ciiinreis weighing less than three pounds per thousand a rate of - i2.90. an increase of -10 per cent over existing law, was fixed. On cigarets weighing more than three, pounds per thousand the rate was made $7.20, a r,0 per cent increase over the present law and a u0 per cent cut from tiie hot'se bill.
