Show SAYS OFFICER AIDED IN IMPORTING LIQUOR Damaging Testimony Is Given at Hearing of Ogden Og-den Police Sergeant. Spe-einl to The Tribune. OGDF.N, Nov. 22. One of the features of the investigation conducted by the city today Into the charges against Per-j Per-j grant .lorry F. Kcllilier of the police de-i de-i partment, in aiding In the bringing of ! contraband liquor into the state, was the i presence, at the hearing of George Bird-sail Bird-sail and Kicliard M. Price, investigators of the department of justice. Another feature was the giving of testimony tes-timony by Ben Cohen, the local merchant, mer-chant, who alleges that Kelliher agreed to "protect him in importing liquor." The inquiry was conducted by John G. Willis, as special attorney, with Municipal Judge George S. Barker officiating. The testimony of Ben Cohen disclosed the details of alleged violations of the law committed by Kelliher. who, he. al-lt-ized, had come to his store and induced him to go into the business of bringing liquor from Wyoming. He admitted having signed an affidavit, at the request re-quest of Captain O. II. Mohlman of the police department, which would exonerate Kelliher. Cohen admitted that lie could not read or write. Cohen was the first witness called, and, in answer to a question by Attorney Wiliis, he told of his relations with Sergeant Ser-geant K el liber, whom he said he had known for eighteen years. He said that many times prior lo October Z'S last Kelliher had gone Into his store and asked him why lie did not go to Wyo-, niing and bring some liquor back. To this suggestion Cohen said that lie was afraid (o do so, but his fears were allayed al-layed by Kelliher, who told him that If ii'j obtained the liquor lie (Ktlllher) would see that he was protected. Cohen then said that Kelliher went to his store on October 26 and asked if he was going to Wyoming, to which Cohen said lie replied that his wife was going on the following Monday. Kelliher then, the witness declared, said he would be at the depot. Cohen next told of the arrival of his wife and the turning over to Kelliher of the suitcase containing the liquor. He said Kelliher put the suitcase into the ! police auto and1 drove away, j Mrs. Cohen followed her husband upon ! the stand and corroborated his testimony ' regarding her arrival from Wyoming with ; the liquor and the "turning of the suit-ease suit-ease over to Kelliher at the depot. It was intimated tonight that there will be surprises sprung tomorrow which will cause a sensation in the city among various officials.
