Show Opposed to Strike. By Universal Service. WASHINGTON, Nov. 24. The American Ameri-can Federation of Iabor is not in svm-pathy svm-pathy with the strikes reported threatened in protest agaist the pending execution of Thomas J. Mooney. Officers of the federation are doing all In their power to effect executive clemency clem-ency for Mooney, because they believe there is a reasonable doubt of his guilt. They are opposed to the use of the strike weapop. because they believe that such tactics tend more to injure than to help Mooney's chances for a new trial. This statement of the attitude of the American Federation of L.n.bor was made to the Universal Service hy Frank Morrison, Mor-rison, secretary of the body, who has just returned from the labor conference on the Mexican border. "Those who are declaring for strikes !n sympathy with Mooney," Morrison declared, de-clared, "are afflicted with I. W. W.-ism or are supporters of Berger of Milwaukee. Milwau-kee. "The Densmore report, disclosing a conviction con-viction fund of $410,000, and the fact that peri u red testimony was admitted, would Indicate that Mooney ousht to have another an-other trial. T understand that the judge In the case Is in favor of a new trial. "Wo have been opposed all alon to any strike au;ilnst the action of the court; such action would injure rather than help Mooney's chances; but we are doing what we can to influence the extension of executive clemency in some form, whether it be the granting of a now trial, pardon or setting aside of the death penalty." |
