Show German Failure From A Religious Standpoint!: Ey Harry T. Zeiders, Minister Liberty Park Methodist Episcopal Church, j: f-i-HE wicked shall be turned into I hell, with all the nations that I forget God!" BJble. JL So much said, no one will dispute this, in the light or Germany's affliction. Now that the German dream of "Deutchiand uber alles," and of "Wel-macht," "Wel-macht," Bill Hohenzollern's, together with the Nietzschoan philosophy and writings of Treitschke, Bernhardt and others (as might be considered fundamental funda-mental in the downfall of the German empire) have all gone to the dust, it U about time to take particular notice. It has been conceded by some of our leading lead-ing theologians and biblical critics that the potent cause of Germany's moral degeneracy and decay may be attributed to modern German religious infidelity ami an ti-Christian propaganda. For more than fifty years the German leaders, with hostile spirit and Intent, have opposed and finally rejected the only moral force that could help and re-. generaLe the soul of any nation. That mora! dynamic is Christ and His truth; that element of the truth, so imperative in the life and character of every Individual Indi-vidual that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and the divinely appointed Savior of mankind; a Savior from sin. Reaping Always Fellows Sowing. This simple formula is the fundamental truth of the Christian system. Deny this truth, we deny all. "To as many as receive re-ceive Him (-Christ"), to them gave He power to become the sons of God '' What is essentially true In the life and character char-acter of the individual is true in the life and character of the nation. "Whatsoever "What-soever a man soweth, that will he al?o I reo p." The German people are simply reaping the abundant harvest of their past infidelity to the truth or the principles princi-ples of Christ. They are simply reaping the harvest of the Nietzschean philosophy philoso-phy of tho "Religion' of Valor," whose principle is that "might makes right," which means that there is no such thing as moral right or wrong, but that every act Is right that has to do with one's n wn int erest. nrovidine voti can :n tch the duck by dodging the bulldog; as against that of democracy, whose cardinal car-dinal principle Is justice, love, mercy, good faith and human freedom. Failed to Apprehend Plan for H amanity. What does It all mean. In the light of our living and thinkine? It means that the German leaders have failed to apprehend ap-prehend iil's plan for humanity, to idealize Christ's teaching in their lives. For more than a generation their leaders lead-ers in political life and activities of the nation, and the men of the; r a rmy and navy, have been t rained and developed In their institutions of learning without any faith in the foundations of Christianity. Chris-tianity. They have hen inculcating lino their nature lying, treachery and murder, instead of de:niMm the principles of justice, trut h and nercy. 1 oes it man that we. loo. shall fail to apprehend this idealism? Wili e f:ce'.v ace pt. eat nnd digest the false prjnr'p,e and the teachings teach-ings of the N't.; zsc heap philosophy, or will we accept t he v. ord of truth by faith? Will some of our professorship.- in our leading theological schools, and graduate departments of our universities, continue to teach this same falsity and saturate the minds of the rising generation genera-tion with this same rationalism and materialism? ma-terialism? False Teachings Involve Real Menace. Will some of our ministry continue to discourse from the pulpit this notoriously offensive skepticism, rationalism and destructive de-structive . biblical criticism? In the In-i In-i telligence of Germany's chaos one- would 1 be compelled to say no. Higher criticism criti-cism of the Bible has had full sway in Germans' for several decades, and has been more destructive than constructive, ! and, I am sorry to say, has been break- i ing beyond the confines of Germany into the religious literature and teaching of , ! Great Britain and America. Do you not think it Is ablaut time to take notice, no-tice, to think, to halt? We cannot expect ex-pect to build a divine character in ouH complicated "melting-pot" America by teaching and preaching this same corruption, cor-ruption, this same falsity, that has caused so much suffering, sorrow, shame and depravity, as has been the case with Germany. No; if a man stumbles in the dark and falls into the sewer, if he has any brain left, he will regulate the swiftness of his movement the sec- j ond time. We should remember the words of the Master: "1 am the light , of the world"; "I am the way, tho truth and life." , Kaiser Poses as Regent of Almighty. He did not designate any Nietzschoan philosophical boche, or any German efficiency, effi-ciency, or any other fndi idualisi ic e-'.o-tlst, as the kaiser declared to his soldiers sol-diers in a speech he made to them just at the opening of the war: "God is God, there is but one God, and I, the German emperor, am, if not his prophet, his 'sword to do his will.' " No! The Master Mas-ter said: "I am the light of the world." The writer does not minimize education. educa-tion. In fact, he believes in the old phrase, "The more the better."
