Show Two Trolleys Grind Auto to Splinters; Occupants Unhurt Like Millstones, Street Cars Crush Exceeding Fine; Miracle Saves Three. AN AUTOMOB1LK driven by H. C. Jensen and occupied by his wile and sister was caught between two street cars traveling tn opposite op-posite directions, at Fifth South and State streets last evening, which, as millstones, ground the machine to splinters, splin-ters, its occupants miraculously escaping death and suffering only a few alight cuts and bruises. The machine was a total wreck, and even the engine was broken to pieces. The occupants screamed, but sat in their seats while the auto was ground to pieces under and around them. As the Irolleys came to a standstill a crowd which had gathered was astonished to see the passengers pas-sengers of the motor car crawl out, apparently' ap-parently' unhurt. Mrs. H. C. Jensen and Miss Ida Jensen were taken to the Fairmount apartments i by friends, where It was found that neither was injured. Mr. Jensen was slightly cut, but busied himself digging tires, a. born and other relics from tbe tangled mass of debris. The. traction company was forced to call the wrecking car to the scene before the tightly wedged street cars could be moved. The westbound sireet car was driven bv Motorman J. Nelson, and the east-bound east-bound by Motorman Alva Beckstead. Neither trolley was injured beyond a little lit-tle glass broken in the windows and bent lenders. While the traction company officials and witnesses said that the automobile was traveling on the wrong side of the street Mr. Jenson said last night that he I would expect the company to replace his I machine. |
