Show Barricades Cell ! and Defies His "Foes" at Jail With Bathtub Against the; Door, Farmer's Siege Lasts Twelve Hours. WITH an uprooted bathtub as an improvised tank, Joseph Larsen, said to have become demented through thinking about the war, succeeded in defying" all the forces of the county jail for more than twelve hours Sunday night and yesterday morning. Bulking over six feet and 200 pounds in stature, Larsen is possessed of prodigious pro-digious strength. He tore he bathtub from its fastenings in the room of the hospital ward into which he had been put. The man was not regarded as sufficiently suf-ficiently violent to require being placed in the padded cell. When. flooding waters betrayed that the man had torn loose the bathtub, investigation developed the additional ad-ditional fact that he had dragged it out from the bathroom and used it as a barricade bar-ricade for the door of his room, effectually effectual-ly preventing the entrance of the Jailers. The flooding water was stopped ; through being turned off down stairs, and : then the siege began. After many hours the man became mollified sufficiently to open the door, but not until his brother had talked to him across "No Man's i Land." I |
