Show THATCHER REPORTED C1RH1P CROICE Logan Man Likely to Be Head of Industrial Commission. When the industrial commission of , Utah, created under an act of the last legislature, meets this morning at the state capitol to organize. It probably will name Preston D. Thatcher of Logan chairman of the commission. No formal announcement has been made by the members of the commission as to the chairman, but it was learned from authoritative sources last night that Mr. Thatcher has virtually been agreed upon by the other two members of the commission. In addition to the organization of the industrial commission, the public utilities utili-ties commission, also created by act of the last legislature, will formally organize organ-ize this morning find pursuant to an informal in-formal organization made some time ago. Judge Joshua Greenwood will be chosen chairman of the commission. In connection with the organization of the industrial commission. Frank D. Brown, who will assume office this morning morn-ing as state commissioner of immigration, immigra-tion, labor and statistics, will also assume as-sume office as secretary of the industrial commission. While he will officially be commissioner of labor, Mr. Brown will handle the work of the industrial commission com-mission also, with but the one salary of labor commissioner, until July 1, when the labor department will be absorbed by the industrial commission and become a part of that commission. It is proposed, pro-posed, then, to continue Mr. Brown as secretary of the industrial commission, it is announced, and he will then draw salary as secretary only. Byron P. Nebeker will become chief clerk of the labor department today and Miss Louetta Brown will become stenographer. stenog-rapher. It Is probable. It is said, that when the department is absorbed by the Industrial commission they will lie taken over as clerk and stenographer in that department. It Is planned by the utilities commission, commis-sion, after formally organizing and getting get-ting its work under way, to make a trip to Nevada and California to study the operations of the utilities laws of these states and gather data and information to be used in putting the law into operation tn Utah. Just when tiie commission will start on this trip has not yet been definitely defi-nitely decided. |
