Show PHIS LAUD JUDGE FOR LEPMCY TO SON Sentence Given John Free-I Free-I man Is a Lesson, Father ; and Mother W rite. i The sentiments of a grateful father and mother were set forth in a letter received at the federal building yesterday from Mr. and Mrs. Freeman, parents or John Freeman, sentenced last Wednesday to one year in the penitentiary. Freeman pleaded guilty to the charge of counterfeiting, counter-feiting, following his arrest In Ogden. With him when arrested were his wife and brot her, but when arraigned before Federal Judge Johnson Freeman stated that they had no part whatever In the transaction. Their acquittal followed. The letter was read by Judze Johnson and by him turned over to the office of the United States attorney, where it was placed with the files in the case, following due acknowledgment of its receipt. It read, in part, aa follows: Yerington, Nev., March 10. 1917. 1 Hon. Federal Judge, Salt Lake Citv, Dear Sir: Will you please accept the sincere thanks and appreciation extended to you from the father and mother of the Freeman brothers for the noble way in which you dealt with the young and foolish culprits. The clemency extended them by your honor hon-or was a happy surprise to tis, a:so to all of our friends. The sentence John received will be a very valuable lesson les-son to him in the future and had he been given a many years' sentence his future would have been blighted for all time. You liave been lenient In the extreme. |
