Hope for the recovery of William Clayton, directing direct-ing head of the Ppreckels companies here, who was shot today by I-iorenzo Bellomo, a young Italian, was expressed tonight by his physicians. Clayton was said to be fully conscious and resting ea3. Bellomo Is being kept in close sonfine-ment sonfine-ment at the city jail. After his voluntary volun-tary surrender to a traffic policeman he said he hail watched for half an hour near Clayton's automobile, waiting for his intended victim to appear. Two shots were fired, only one taking effect, the bullet entering the abdomen. The Italian said that lie shot Clayton because the latter did not give him employment em-ployment after a street car accident several sev-eral years ago in which Rollomo lost a foot. Clayton is vice president of the traction system here. "I don't feel any better," ho said. "I am not satisfied, because I did not kill myself also." Clayton is 5$ years old. He is married and has one daughter. Tie was shot as he entered his automobile and walked back into the San Diego Union building without assistance. |
