Show RUSSIAN GUNS ! HE EFFECTIVE IN NEWATTACKS Germans Surprised at the Fierceness of Onslaught in Galicia and Forced . to Retire. PROGRESS IS MADE ON OTHER FRONTS British Deny Berlin Story That Cruiser Arabic Has Been Sunk; Admit Mine Sweeper Is Missing. FETKOGRAD, via London, Feb. 11, 6:05 p. m. Although a general revival of activity is officially reported along i the entire Russian front, the only developments de-velopments of more than local and temporary importance are the Russian advances in the Stripa region, southeast south-east of Isehroff, where the Russians succeeded in capturing heights commanding com-manding the district in which ruue the main railway line between the Chodo-rov Chodo-rov and Stry rivers, and the occupation occupa-tion by the Russians of the heights east of Tchemerine. The progress in the latter district, which is between Kovno and Lutsk, is 3cother sign of the resumption of the Russian offensive, which came to an abrupt halt half a month ago, when Germans apparently succeeded in erecting such firm f ortitications that 1 further attempts at an. advance on the j.'art of the Russians became a waste euergy and ammunition. it is considered significant that a new and more formidable Russian offensive offen-sive is being launched against the same positions, and with initial success. This is explained by most of the military mili-tary observers as due to the new power and effectiveness of the Russian artillery, artil-lery, which recently has shown marked improvement on all fronts. The Germans, evidently surprised by the fierceness of the new Russian onslaught, on-slaught, which promises to become a general initiative along the whole line, have been forced at several points in Galicia to retire to their second line of defenses. !
