Show WELTERS TO CLASH IT GllOTOllW Palmer and Irish in HeacU line Bout; Promising Card of Four-rounders. Kid Irish and Eddie Palmer, who meet in the six-round main event of Down-ing's Down-ing's boxing show in the Grand theater the-ater tomorrow night, put in a hard day's work yesterday in preparation for the battle and are about ready to step into the ring. Irish has drawn the color line since he began boxing here several years ago and it was only the taunts of the colored col-ored boy's friends that prompted Irish to take him on. Irish proved last winter that he was the class of the local welterweights. He stopped all of his opponents iu short order. Palmer comes here from , the east touted as the greatest colored welterweight wel-terweight in the country and, notwithstanding notwith-standing his great record, the local fans are confident that Irish will at least hold his own with him. : While this w-ill be the big bout of the evening, the fans are also looking forward to the match, between Kid Slater of this city and Kid Davis of Ogden with a great deal of interest, as there never were two tougher or gamer boys sent into the ring than this pair. Jack Downey, the local ."white nope annihilator,'1 will also have a chance to show the fans that he still possesses enough class and hitting ability to take care of himself against a strong fighter when he meets Dan Ketrhel of New York. Ketchel, "who is said to be a cousin of the late Stanley Kotchel, is a big, strapping, young fellow, who comes here from the ea?t with a pretty fair reputation for a youngster. He was matched with Jack Dempsey for a six-round six-round bout in Provo last spring and gave the .promising young light heavyweight heavy-weight a good battle, although he lost. Willie Gee, the clever little bantamweight bantam-weight from Denver, will meet a classy-looking classy-looking boy in Young Maxwell, and if the latter can show as much class in the ring as he does in the gymnasium he will give the Denver boy a busy evening. Swede Johnson, one of the local youngsters young-sters who has just graduated out of the amateur curtain raiser class and has been stopping all of his opponents, will meet Willie Jackson of Ogden, who has been showing considerable class in the Junction city against youngsters. The regulation amateur curtain raiser will open the fun. |
