Show IffllSSOM UBS" S15,0G0JN AUGUST Sioux Consolidated Lets Contract to Sink Shaft Deeper. Notwithstanding the fact that the August shipments from the Irou Blossom Blos-som were very light, owing to an order from the smelting company prohibiting the shipment of silioious ore, tho earnings earn-ings of this property for the month of August were in excess of $1.1,000, says the Eureka Reporter. This information was given out at the meeting of tho directors this week. Of course, this sum is considerably under what would lie required re-quired if the property is to continue tho payment of its regular ' dividends of $100,000 per quarter, but when everything every-thing is taken into consideration the showing is highly satisfactory and, with the smelting situation clearing up somewhat, there are reasons to believe that the Iron Blossom will make a much hotter record for the present month. The mine has a largo treasury and even though tho earnings for the' quarter quar-ter fell a little under the dividend requirements re-quirements the directors may see fit to disburse the regular sum. They could make up the balance out of the big reserve fund and the monev would never bo missed. Considerable new work has been in progress at tho Iron Blossom during the past few months. Tho winze, by 1 which the big copper deposit is being developed. ha been sent down to the 11.VU level and a drift is now being driven to tap this samo ore at greater depth. Work is going along 111 nice -hupe in thi drift, but it is still several sev-eral hundred feet from the point where the ore can be expected. Heavy shipments of iron ore, together togeth-er with a lighter tonnage of higher grade material which is being sent to the vallev smelters and to the Tintic mill, arc "having a fattening effect 011 the Dragon Consolidated mine s treasury treas-ury and information which was given out at the recent meeting of the company's com-pany's directors shows that the mine now has a cash balance of bettor than tf.iil.Oin). The present heavy shipments bring considerable monev into the Dragon Drag-on treasury every month, but the company com-pany is Joing some rather extensive development work, which is taking a good part of the earnings. At present the Dragon is sending out about ;i7," tons of iron ore daily, this product coining from the south end of the mine, while the higher grade ore is being mined from that part of the property which adjoins the Iron Blossom. Blos-som. During the week the officials of the Sioux consolidated Mining company awarded a contract for the sinking of the main shaft to .lohn W. Allen and Klmer Duncan and this work will be taken up without delay. Messrs. Allen and Duncan are now retimbering part of the shaft, which is down to a depth of BOO feet. Under the contract the shaft will be sent dowu to a depth of 1000 feet and it is barely possible that sinking will not stop short of tho 1200 level. w. D. Loose, local manager for the .Sioux, savs work is to be continued in the winze which is being sent down in an effort to locate the extension of the Iron Blossom copper deposit. This winze is ou the 000 level and it is not more than a few hundred feet from that part of the Iron Blossom in which the copper ore was quite recently discovered. dis-covered. Officials of the Sioux Consolidated Con-solidated mine seem confident of being able to get a continuation of this cop per deposit. They state that, while p., winze must be deepened considora before the ore is found, the present j, dications could hardly be more f,. '' able. Three shifts will bo used in the s,a.. and work in the. winze will also he fa, vied along without interruption as sew as a small hoisting plant can ho i stalled. |
