Unexpected nom-: inations, contests which sometimes re-; quired three ballots and the repeated stampeding of the delegates which frightened some candidates out of the rai'.e entirely featured the convention I here today, at which the Republicans placed a complete county ticket in the field. In more ways than one it was one of the stormiest conventions ever held in the county, the delegates for the most part running things to suit themselves them-selves and adding to the general confusion confu-sion of mismanagement. Jn the last hours of the convention the delegates displayed such a strong preference for certain candidates of ihoir choice that several candidates who had planned to compete for places on the ticket refused to allow their names to go before the convention. This re-suited re-suited in at leait two of the nominees being named by acclamation when contests con-tests were evident up to the moment of nominations. The stampeding of delegates dele-gates resulted in not less than four avowed candidates refusing to go before the convention. Committees Named. On the basis of five from the city and four from the country, the convention conven-tion committees were composed of the following delegates: Credential? Mrs. Alice Collins, M. C. Richards, J. M. Forristal, John A. Allen and T. R. Wheelwright from the city ; II. B. Thompson, A. H. Garner, T. J. Wilson, Jr., and aS. P. Mathews from the country. Resolutions and platform Leon Browning, K. IT. Hodge, David Jensen, B. F. Thomas and W. H. I? eerier, Jr., from the citv; James Martin, II. L. Shtirtliff, J. M. Wade and Kldo Ritter from tho country. Permanent organization and order of business Seth Thomas, Prank Smvth, William Craig, II. D. Brown and John W. Wilcox from the city; J. Q. Blay-lock, Blay-lock, T. M. Jones, Joseph Bachman and B. Charlton from tho country. The first evidence of stampede methods meth-ods was shown when the city delegates adjourned the convention until 1:30 o'clock while the country delegates were absent from the convention hall selecting select-ing their eommitteo members. The candidates for nomination for four-year-term county commissioner were William C. Hunter, incumbent; John Farr, Warren G. Child, incumbent; Dr. G. A. Dickson and William L. Porter. Por-ter. Three ballots were necessary before Mr. Farr was selected as the nominee, the results being as follows: First ballot Child, (53 Farr, 62U; Hunter, nOV-; Dickson, 2oV, and Porter, Por-ter, li. For county attorney three candidates were named" Joseph E. Evans, incumbent; incum-bent; Sam C. Powell, who entered tho race after he could not qualify for a nomination on the Republican' legislative legisla-tive ticket, and R. H. Baumunk. The first ballot, which placed Mr. Evans in nomination, was as follows: Evans, 145 1-3; Powell, 49 1-3, and Baumunk, 15 1-3. Aa indicated prior to the convention, Harry Kales, inc.; rube nt county clerk, had 'no opposition ior the nomination and was placed on the ticket by acclamation. accla-mation. Aima D. Chambers, a former county treasurer, was the only opponent ot County Treasurer Joseph E. Storey for rc-num'ination. The selection of the incumbent in-cumbent amounted to a landslide, the result re-sult of the first ballot being Storey, lo7; Chambers, 43. Takes Three Ballots. As in the case of nominees for county commisisonei', the shrievalty nomination required three ballots and furnished one of the most stirring contests of the convention. con-vention. A. Reeve, present deputy recorder, were named. The situation on the next nomination, nomina-tion, that of county assessor, was much the same. With the delegates in almost complete control of the situation, in spite of Chairman Forristal 's efforts to preserve order, James L. Robson, incumbent, incum-bent, was nominated by acclamation. Dr. E. P. Mills named George A. Parker Park-er as a candidate for the nomination for county surveyor. R. S. Corlew, incumbent, incum-bent, was named by C. R. Hollings-worth Hollings-worth for renomination. The result was virtually another stampede, with Corlew the successful candidate. The ballot resulted: Corlew, 154 !j and Parker 491?. W. S. Craven, who had intended to seek the nomination for surveyor, would not allow his name to be presented in the face of Corlew 's popularity.
