Show TO START SHIPPING FMIIMLGROU! Local Officials Return From Inspection of Big Cottonwood Cotton-wood Property. With miners engaged in sinking on ore and with another crow engaged in raising on ore shipments are to be siartcd from the Howell Mining company com-pany 's- property located in the Big Cottonwood Cot-tonwood district, according to J. M. Howell, a director of the company, who has returned from a trip of inspection to the workings. He was accompanied by J. C. W'ailo, B. F. Tibby and Jay Eliot Johnson. There is about fifty tons of ore in the bins at the property. A winze is being ennk on ore that was encountered iu tho old tunnel driven by Mr. Howell and his associates asso-ciates years ago. The winze is being sunk at a point about 370 feet iu from the portal of the tunnel, Tho winze has rea.-hed a depth of fifteen feet and the ore body is apparently getting larger as the work of sinking on it progresses. The raise is up a distance of fifty feet, with a good showing of commercial ore, and five miners are working at that point, all on ore. Mr. Johnson, general manager of the Big Cottonwood Consolidated property, said that the tunnel was in a distance of about 523 feet and that excellent progress was bcir.g made since the installation in-stallation of the machinery. The work of driving is being done with machine drills, and where heretofore it was a difficult matter to advance the tunnel at the rate of one foot per day it is now going forward at the rate 01 about five feet per day. Its objective is to reach the limestone-quartzite contact that lies about 200 feet ahead of the present breast. The face of the tunnel is now in tho limestone. Eight men are employed. After inspecting the Howell and the Big Cottonwood Consolidated property the party also visited the Cardiff mine iu which tho bonanza ore body has been developed.
