Show mm ACCIDENT II A LIFE John Black, 70 Years of Age, Struck by Sled and Severely Injured. Another coasting accident, which may result in a fatality, occurred at 9 o'clock last night, when a sled loaded with young people ran into John Black, 70 years of age, at South Temple and S streets. Black was thrown violently to the pavement and was rendered unconscious for a time. His most serious injury was in the head, according ac-cording to Dr. T. B. Beatty, who was summoned to attend him, and it is not improbable im-probable that he may have concussion of the brain. Mr. and Mr?. Black, who live at Beaver, Utah, and who arc here visiting friends and relHtivew, had left the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Maefatiano, 25 S street, and were waiting on rhe corner of South Temple for a car. The aled which ran into the aged man was coming down South Temple street at a high rate of speed. Tne occupants of the sled yelled "Track," and Mr. and Mrs, Black stepped to one sfde. They wero too late, however, and a runner of the sled caught Mr. Black's foot, throwing him to the pavement pave-ment with great force. The sled, which, according to Mrs. Black, was being ridden by tbree young people, did not overturn, but was righted by the steersman and continued its course down the street. Mr. Black was carried to the Macfarla ne home, where he received re-ceived medical attention. Because of his advanced age, it is feared that bis Injuries In-juries may prove fatal. A report of the accident was telephoned tele-phoned to police headquarters by Mrs. J. R. Walker. 1205 East South Temple street. Patrolman Henry Calton visited the vicinity and made an effort to locate the occupants of the coasting sled. He was unsuccesful, however, having failed to find anyone who could furnish the information in-formation concerning their identity. According to witnesses, the coasting sled was proceeding on the north side of South Temple street, in conformity with rules recently laid down by the city com-mision com-mision designating thoroughfares where the sport may be practiced. A number of youngsters were enjoying the sport there last night, but none among them could give information concerning the1 identity of persons on the sled which I : struck Mr. Black. |
