An official decision ou tho problematical annexation or a northern strip of Davis county to Wober county will be received from Governor Spry and Attornoy General A. It. Barnes within tile next few days, according to Moroni Skeen, chairman of the Weber county board of commissioners. If the decision of the attorney general is favorable fa-vorable to annexation, Governor Spry has promised the local commissioner that he will issue a proclamation to that effect. Property owners of the strip proposed for annexation voted almost unanimously unanimous-ly in favor of the plan at the last election, elec-tion, as did also the voters of Weber county, but naturally, Davis county as a whole registered a negative vote. Attorneys At-torneys discovered a conflict on the point in the slate constitution and tbe state law, but held that the decision of Davis county residents outside of the strip did not count. Joining- Attorney T. It. O'Connelly of this city, Angus Bowman and John Johnson, John-son, two of the petitioners of Davis county, coun-ty, Commissioner Skeeu recently made a personal appeal to Governor Spry for a decision on the question. He has prom- ised to act tn accordance with the decision de-cision of the attorney general. Property owners in the strip proposed for annexation have declared tiiat they will not pay taxes to Davis county and the assessor of Weber county will be instructed in-structed to include the property in his assessment lists for the coming year. Taxes on property Included in tile strip total about 5S00O. . |
