Show URGES RATIFICATION OF CANAL TREATY WASHINGTON, Sept. 1. Secretary Bryan went to the capitol today to urge ratification ot the Nicaragnan canal treaty on members of the aenate foreign relations committee. The committee com-mittee will meet tomorrow. A subcommittee sub-committee will make a favorable report re-port on the treaty and propose an amendment to provide that the $3,000,-000, $3,000,-000, which it is proposed to pay Nicaragua for the canal route and naval station rights, shall be utilized by that republic in the payment of national na-tional obligations. Becretai'3' Bryan conferred particularly par-ticularly with Republican senators opposed op-posed to action on the treaty at this time. The European conflict is urged as a particular reason for concluding the negotiations for the KicaraguaS canal route. Senator Smith of Michigan proposes to fight the ratification. Action on the Colombian treatv also was urged by Mr. Bryan, but senators tonight expressed the opinion that it would not be considered at this session. |
