Show Gasoline Tank Not Proficient in Arithmetic Inspector Finds That This Device Sometimes Gives Scant Measure. APfE gasoline tanks honest? Do they give a square deal to the owners of the exhausted motor cars whose thirsty gullets they fill? That is what Heber 0. Smith, state sealer of weights and measures, is trying try-ing to find out. He started out yesterday yester-day on a tour of inspection of all the gasoline tanks in town from which, juice is pumped for autos and other uses. Tbe prevalence of automobiles, due to the prosperity of Utah and the cheapness of cars, has resulted, in. the installation throughout town of countless count-less pumping and measuring devices for tbe transfer of gasoline from tanks to motor hoods. These tanks, therefore, come under the official eye of the sealer of weights and measures. He recently returned from the southern part of the state, where he was pained and surprised to find many of the gas tanks deceitful. Many of tbom he marked1 zero in arithmetic. All of tbom he had corrected cor-rected before he came home. IS7ow the sealer is going to see "whether "wheth-er the tanks in the city are on the square. He estimates that the job wil take him about a week. |
